The HEDC is developing a new 20-year economic development strategy for the Hunter region, setting a long-term framework for economic development and jobs growth into the future.
The new strategy, which has been supported by funding from the NSW Department of State and Regional Development, will build upon the previous regional strategies for the Hunter and be consistent with the State Plan and the Lower Hunter Regional Strategy.
The objective of the project is to develop a regional economic development strategy for the Hunter region that:
- Incorporates a 20 year vision for the Hunter
- Identifies 5 year targets and strategies towards the vision
- Builds a strong and robust economy
- Identifies the needs of the region to enable expansion
- Addresses the expectations of a growing population
- Has widespread commitment to its implementation
- Captures the values of today’s community and inspires action
- Positions the Hunter to play a key role in Australia’s economic future
Mark Sargent from Aigis has been appointed by the HEDC to prepare the new regional economic development strategy and is currently undertaking consultation with regional stakeholders. The draft Strategy is expected to be available for consultation before August, depending upon the availability of relevant statistics from the 2006 Census.
