Andrew Margan and wife Lisa (chef and restaurateur) have opened their new Broke premises with the aim of providing a complete wine and food experience. Located at 1238 Milbrodale Road.
The tasting room allows wine lovers to relax and enjoy current release Margan wines as well as aged vintages and some limited releases available otherwise only to wine club customers.
The restaurant (named simply, Margan) provides stylish country dining with a Mediterranean influence.
Why the village of Broke as opposed to the more bustling Pokolbin? Andrew, as a true Hunter boy, loves the vineyards in the Broke Fordwich sub region of the Hunter Valley as the wine he can make from some of these old vines planted on deep, volcanic soils give his wines a truly unique personality.
In addition, Broke has a rich history as a village on the historic Convict Trail as well as an established dairy township boasting 65 working dairies in its recent history. Before that, the Wanaruah aboriginal tribe inhabited the Broke valley and significant aboriginal paintings can be viewed in the caves in the area.
Finally, Broke is a rural village situated in a pretty valley flanked by the striking Brokenback mountain range (which continues on into Pokolbin) and the iconic Yellow Rock headland. Stunning views abound from all aspects of this part of the Hunter Valley and the tranquil country ambience you find in Broke provides for a relaxed experience for all visitors.
Our very popular Margan Beltree tasting room (266 Hermitage Road) is still offering our lovely current vintage wines. There is much excitement at Beltree as Robert Molines (formerly of Roberts Restaurant) has just opened a French restaurant - Bistro Beltree.
We look forward to a great working relationship with Robert and Sally that will be mutually beneficial, and where the customers will enjoy the experience of food and wine matching in a lovely relaxed setting.

Margan Family wines have a great reputation and are a feature at the Broke Fordwitch festival on March 2010.
